Recently, many have pointed out that there has been little executive leadership in regards to the coronavirus pandemic in the United States. These people claim that President Trump has done nothing to sufficiently combat the spread of the deadly virus and point out his apparent unwillingness to endorse the efforts of the CDC and other medical experts. These claims make no sense, however. Why would the most powerful person in the United States of America refrain from benefiting the general public? Obviously, President Trump can see the bigger picture, and is clearly pursuing the course of action that he perceives is best for his country. Perhaps he worries that the public will not take kindly to his efforts as a leader during this time and will misinterpret his true intentions. Allow me to speak for President Trump, and explain why he is actually helping the country through his lack of leadership. I will consider the effects of Trump’s policies on the economy, society, and the military.

Surely, one in a position as powerful as Trump must know the important role that the economy plays in national affairs. Evidently, by refraining from directing relief to this epidemic, he sees economic opportunity for the betterment of his nation. Thanks to the coronavirus, many endangered enterprises have once again flourished, such as online antique buying and mechanic part shopping. Trump’s push to reopen the nation is an even larger manifesto in the name of a good economy. If the nation closed, people would lose jobs, and products typically manufactured for sale could not be produced. If Europe had not panicked during the spread of the Black Death, they could have gotten their act together and continued to maintain business relations. Sure, a few more million people would have died, but the money would still have been flowing quite smoothly. Trump only wants what is best for the collective economy of America.

And who is helping our mask workers? Not the Democrats who want this virus pandemic to be concluded, that’s for sure. Trump, on the other hand, recognizes that deadly pandemics only come every so often, and that really places a damper on the mask industry. If people only felt hungry every fifty years, then what would be the fate of our farmers? By allowing the spread of COVID-19, Trump has ensured that the mask economy will thrive for months if not years to come. In this case, he is not only supporting domestic interests, but also the sweatshops in poor countries where these masks are manufactured.

If people are not outside in close proximity to one another, then they are not spreading the virus. By reinstituting pre-pandemic operations, President Trump also seeks to boost our medical status. The influx of sick and dying thanks to a lack of social distancing is only providing greater job opportunities for our doctors, nurses, and emergency response personnel. Thanks to Trump’s genius move to refrain from pursuing further closure of public and private facilities, the employment opportunities for those emerging in the medical field will be as bright as ever. Not to mention that the youth are also benefiting from such policies. If the coronavirus is allowed to spread, surely those elderly people sucking money from the government through Social Security will soon become less of a burden on the checks of the young as they are reduced in number. Not to mention the countless jobs that will be provided to young people as their older working counterparts are no longer available in their respective fields. A good economy is Trump’s grand plan, not the destruction of it.

And, like any good leader, Trump seems to know that looking good is just as important as acting good when it comes to morale and leadership (just look at that flowing gold hair of his)! Many of the conservative-run states have begun to open under Trump, and some of the first enterprises to resume operations have been barbershops and beauty salons. While the Germans and Italians become paler and their hair becomes longer as they wait out the pandemic inside their homes, the complexion of American citizens will be as strong as ever. Barbers and salon employees will be placed in harm’s way, yes, but what is one hair trimmer compared to the dozens of stunning people whose features they maintain? As far as Trump is concerned, they, like soldiers in warfare, are heroes that should feel honored to die for the cause of their country.

Our military largely embodies the strength of our nation. For centuries, we have looked to the heroes of our own great revolution as models to which the soldiers of today live up to. But in an era of ever-evolving warfare technology, who can say what our men and women on the front lines may face? During the First World War, American soldiers suffered heavy losses in the flu epidemic of 1918. We do not wish for our soldiers now to find themselves in a similar situation or placed against chemical weapons that they are not familiar with. To help train them in the ways of survival on a microbiological scale, President Trump has called for the reopening of America. This way, when our soldiers are placed in the harm of deadly pathogens, they will already have the experience on how to protect themselves from them.

Additionally, an open, fully-functioning United States will ensure that the coronavirus has time to sift out the weak from the strong, and ensure that only those worthy of calling themselves American will remain. For illegal immigrants, whose access to healthcare is even more scarce than that of low-income Americans, will also be dissuaded from entering a country so rampant with disease. Speaking of which, low-income Americans, who know little of politics and economics, will be weakened tremendously by this pandemic, leaving the wealthy and thus the most knowledgeable people in their rightful places of power, unhindered by the uneducated lore of the masses.

All said, Americans need to stop giving President Trump such a hard time about reopening America and instead recognize that his perceived lack of leadership is actually the best leadership we could wish for. If President Wilson had instituted proper measures to combat the spread of the Spanish Flu, the United States today would surely be dysfunctional and overpopulated. It is Donald Trump who we have to thank for our great future. A man like him, who ignores the experts and pursues what he knows is right for his own people, is a fine thing to look up to in these dark times indeed.
