A local NRA member in Lafayette, Louisiana says that he would have been able to stop the shooter at a showing of Trainwreck on Thursday.
“If I’d had my gun, I definitely could have stopped it,” says Tim Walkins, card-carrying member of the NRA. “I just left it at home.”
Asked if he has had any formal training on quickly drawing a weapon and shooting to hit a moving target in a dark room surrounded by hundreds of innocent bystanders, Walkins responded that “Well no, I haven’t shot in that EXACT situation, but I go to the shooting range with my buddies every once in a while, and I’m a pretty good shot. I hit the target a lot of the time. So yeah, I’m pretty sure I could have taken him out. I just didn’t have my gun on me.”
Walkins states his gun is usually at home in his gun safe. “I mean, I never thought I would need my gun to go see a movie. I’ll never make that mistake again.”
