The Biden Monologues: Day 457

America as a notion can be defined as a single word.
Most days that word is:
		Meatloaf
		gasoline
		hamburgers
		Cher
		or Batman
others days it’s
		cowgirl
		sunglasses
		alligator
		spandex
		motel
though those allegations are unproven.
America is a saxophone
that denies everything;
	a banjo
with two torn strings;
	a Cadillac
with a black woman
who may have been part Cherokee
in its trunk. At least we think
it was a woman. Police
assure me
they’re looking into it.
And when we kid ourselves
the children aren’t listening
the word is:
	washroom
	billionaire
	sniff
	transvestite
	Israel
excuse me, I mean
	wigwam
	railroad
	Mexico
	nothing
these are national security matters
covered by the relevant legislative get-out clauses
and just alligators at this stage.
I was in the foothills of the Rockies
	the Catskills
	the Alps
	the MaGillycuddy Reeks
chewing over the world conundrum with
	Joshua Nkomo
	King Zog
	Micheál Martin
	or was it
	Liberace?
I can’t be sure any of this is true.
